ABOUT ME
Prof. Renzo Luisi was born in Luxembourg (EU) in 1971. After obtaining his first diploma in 1990, he worked as an analytical chemist in the wine industry while pursuing his university studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Bari. This early industrial experience shaped his interest in translating fundamental chemistry into practical and sustainable solutions.
In 1996, he graduated cum laude in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Bari and, in 2001, obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Saverio Florio, specializing in organometallic chemistry and the chemistry of highly reactive intermediates.
His international research career began in 1999 as a Visiting Scholar at the prestigious Roger Adams Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (USA), where he worked in the group of Prof. Peter Beak, one of the world's leading experts in organolithium chemistry, focusing on stereoselective organolithium-mediated synthesis.
In 2001, he joined the University of Bari as Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, and became Full Professor of Organic Chemistry in 2020.
Today, Prof. Luisi leads an internationally recognized research program at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry, flow chemistry, organometallic chemistry, radical chemistry, and sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing. His research focuses on the development of innovative synthetic methodologies, enabling technologies, and continuous-flow processes to access complex molecular architectures with applications in medicinal chemistry and green pharmaceutical production. He currently coordinates several national and European research projects, including the Horizon Europe SusPharma project, and actively collaborates with leading academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.
